Mariners claim Scott Cousins on waivers
Today the Seattle Mariners claimed OF Scott Cousins off waivers from the Blue Jays. Last season Cousins had lines of .163/.200/.267/.467 with the Marlins. This move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for the Mariners. He will not provide the outfield offense that the M’s are so desperately looking for. He has only 2 home runs in 175 plate appearances. Cousins is best known as the player that collided at home with Giants catcher Buster Posey suffered a broken ankle.
The most logical reason for this move is to provide bench depth. Cousins can play all 3 outfields positions and could come off the bench as a pitch runner. He could also be brought into provide depth in the Mariners minor league systems. Hopefully this will be a precursor to bigger outfield moves to come in the next couple of months.
As a SF Giants fan I’m glad to hear this. For sure Cousins has the fire and initiative if the past few years hasn’t beaten it out of him. In any event, I’m glad he has another chance to play. Best wishes kid!
