Possible Destinations for Robinson Cano in 2014
Robinson Cano is going to be one of the biggest names to hit the free agent market this winter. Cano has been the one constant bat for the Yankees this season. He has stat lines of .307/24/84/.386/.510/.897 in 130 games. Here are a few teams that will be lining up for his services this off-season.
Dodgers- Ownership has shown a willingness to spend boat loads of money in order to improve the roster. Cano would add another high powered bat to a lineup that includes: Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Yasiel Puig. He would add power to the second base position, which has been an offensive concern for most of the season. The Dodgers would be an offensive juggernaut with Cano in the lineup.
Mariners- The team will have a lot of money to persuade a high profile free agent to come to the Emerald city. The extra money is due to the club having a lot of players on one-year contracts that will expire at the end of the season. Nick Franklin is a very nice young player, but if GM Jack Zduriencik wants to keep his job the club needs to win next season and Cano will give the team a better opportunity to make the playoffs than Franklin.
Yankees- This is the team that needs Cano the most. Cano has been the most consistent offensive player on the team. The Yankees have struggled on offensive this season and Cano is still in his prime offensively unlike other members of the Yankees’ roster. Cano seems like a great fit to take over for Derek Jeter as the captain after Jeter decides to hang up his cleats. I have a gut feeling that the Yankees and Cano will find a way to work out a new contract that will keep him in pinstripes for the foreseeable future.
