More Reliever Trades

The White Sox traded reliever Jesse Crain to the Rays for either players to be named later or cash considerations yesterday afternoon. Crain has a record of 2-3 with an ERA of 0.74 ERA in 38 games. He has been out of action for the last couple of weeks with an right shoulder injury that landed him on the DL. Crain  has held right-handed hitters to a .174 BA and a .447 OPS this season. He should be a great addition to the Rays once he has healed from his shoulder injury.

The Cardinals have traded reliever Marc Rzepczynski to the Indians for minor league shortstop Juan Herrera. Rzepczynski has a 0-0 record with an ERA of 7.84 in 11 games. David Cameron of Fangraphs tweeted that Rzepczynski has the highest ERA of a player traded near the trade deadline. He has held left-handed hitters to a career BA of .224 and an OPS .607. The Indians were looking for a left-handed reliever that is captable of getting left-handed hitters and Rzepczynski has the potential to fill that role. Herrera had stat lines of .275/1/11/.366/.369/.735 in 39 games for A-ball Mahoning Valley. After looking at his stats he appears to be a high average low pop hitter. Cardinals’ fans will have to wait a couple of years before Herrera makes it to the big leagues.
